Rensselaerville Falls, a 120-foot cascade with three twisting tiers, is nestled into the southern portion of the E.N. Huyck Preserve. Founded in 1931, the preserve is also home to one of the oldest biological research stations in the United States, where I worked with some great people on a salamander study run by Rick Wyman. The 2,000 acres of luscious land near my former home of Rensselaerville, New York, features 12 miles of hiking trails, the grassy beachfront of Lake Myosotis, and the turtle-laden Lincoln Pond. Of them all, Rensselaerville Falls is the most dramatic landscape and my favorite, especially in autumn.
